Best Review - Top 5 The Flaming Lips T-Shirt Design at Threadless

I

've first known the band Flaming Lips after hearing it in the local radio and was instantly captured by the airy vocals of frontman Wayne Coyne. It was one of the best songs i"ve heard and feel that I can listen to it all day long. After some time I purchased the album of Transmissions from the Satellite Heart (in cassette tape medium…yes it's old school), and sadly I didn't get their type of music back then. I only liked one song. Fast forwarding today, I've recently visited the album and it made all sense. They were one of the first Indie bands that have existed alongside Sonic Youth or Yo La Tengo. Upon hearing the new albums, i sensed the progression of their styles. They can't be locked into a genre anymore.

Theres that optimistic vibe in every Flaming lips album that never diminishes. I feel that they are not a fan of conformity as during the time i discovered them, every band was doing grunge and metal which was sort of the good choice at the time; but still they prevailed in what they were doing.

The first song that I liked from them is She don't use Jelly, based on the title alone a lot of connotations comes to mind right away. However, no negative innuendos are included in their lyrics. It's just fun lyrics that anyone can listen to and still rock out to the tunes with the quirky ideas for songs that band is famous for.

I've now been listening to the album I've started with and have changed my views on the song lineup. I just didn't understand the music before, but have now realized that they are one of the pioneers for this type of sound that encompasses a lot of things apart from the typical rock band.

My top pick from the rest of the designs. I liked the clean design and how the vampire is mixed with traces of Dali's strangeness.

Great use of negative space on the illustration.

The Terror

Somehow reminds me of a Pearl Jam album.
