I bet you have heard of Harry Potter. However if you belong to that miniscule minority that hasnt heard of Harry and his friends - and are looking for some childrens' books - this post is for you! Harry Potter is a highly popular wizard (and witches of course) series of books by J. K. Rowling. There are seven books in the series and it starts with Harry's first year at the School of Witchcraft.

Harry Potter And the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (or Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as originally penned by the Author) is our introduction to the Harry Potter series. Harry is just 11 years old and has been bullied for years by his cousin and relatives, the Dursleys. However the Hogwart School of Witchcraft and Wizardry takes in Harry when he reaches 11 years because he is a Wizard. Next comes a thrilling journey with Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione as they learn Witchcraft and try to save the Philosopher's stone at School. This is by far the best book of the HP series!

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is based on Harry's 4th year at Hogwart. This is one of the most interesting book of the series. Here we are introduced to the trials and tribulations of an adolescent group of teenagers. Romance, teenage dating all find a place in this book as Harry again takes on old enemy Voldemort. The book introduces the readers to darker side of the series as Harry Potter and his friends catapult into the adult world. The original 12 year olds who started with the first book - would be 16-17 years when The Goblet of Fire was published. The book is tailor-made for them with an interesting storyline. Even though it has a sad ending - it prepares one for the death, destruction, mayhem, fighting all to come in the future Harry Potter books!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

This is the last book of the Harry Potter Series. Harry is in final year of school (well school is closed most of the year though!) and finally gets to defeat Voldemort with the help of the Order. With Dumbledore dead - the HP world seems somehow different. Definitely worth a read - because it is the last of the series!

The Harry Potter Series is there to stay for years. In all likelihood it will attain the status of a Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn or Enid Blyton books and will be read 50 years down the line. Many waanabes and copycat books have come up - of course. the series is so lovable because it is so believable. It is as if there is real magic and witches and wizards around us.
