e all know that in front of the cameras our favorite actors will beat the bad guys and save the day. We don't usually expect them to be even MORE badass when they're just being themselves. That's why these 10 very public figures are worthy of note for more than just how many blockbusters they have under their collective belts.
Perhaps the most unlikely of action heroes, Bruce Willis started his career as a comedian. The circumstances that allowed him to become the everyman hero everyone knows were so strange, and so random, that it's a story only Hollywood can tell. What he did when he reached fame and fortune is almost as impressive though, and it's those actions which earned him a place on this particular top best list.
While he's best known for playing unusual, quirky roles Depp has used his off-camera powers for good in many ways the public doesn't know about. From helping bring about social justice to his time working with Native American tribes, there's a lot going on with this actor after filming is done for the day.
Known best for his role in Game of Thrones as barbarian chief Khal Drogo, Jason Momoa is no slouch when it comes to off-camera badassery. A consummate athlete, his fantasy roles are more than just a paycheck to him. He's also thoughtful about where he comes from, and he's got some unique roots that people might not expect.
Dwayne Johnson made a name for himself in the world of professional wrestling, and then he made movie history as one of the highest paid actors of all time. Behind the rippling muscles and intense screen persona though is a man who has worked hard to get where he is, and who has done some things that might surprise you if you weren't there to see him do them yourself.
"The Hedgehog" is known best for his more risque activities, both in front of and behind the camera. He's more than just a face and a... smile, though. With a master's degree in special education, and dozens of side projects along with a world record or two, Ron Jeremy isn't just another porn star.
The king of good and bad action alike, Stallone's screen presence is undeniable. Either because of the way he speaks, or because of the characters he's played, people forget that he's more than just a tough guy born in Hell's Kitchen. He's also got a degree, and he's the man who wrote some of the biggest blockbusters of his own career. Never judge a book by its cover, because what's inside might be a lot richer than you ever guessed it would be.
Known for dozens of iconic roles, from the Terminator to Conan the Barbarian, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the man who made fitness cool and who set some of the longest-lasting trends about what it means to look like an action hero. What he accomplished to get where he wanted to be is stunning, surpassed only by the sheer, balls-out determination Schwarzenegger has shown in pursuing his goals.
While the name might not be synonymous with action heroes, Ian Fleming is the man who created James Bond. The exploits of his mythical super-spy might seem like the fevered imaginings of any author, but Fleming's own missions as part of British Navel Intelligence during World War II make Bond's greatest escapes seem like ho-hum affairs.
Famed for his voice, which has been given to heroes and villains alike, James Earl Jones is one of those men whose film exploits will never really measure up to what he's done when there's no one to film him. A former green beret and accomplished musician who used to have one hell of a stutter, his rise to fame is only part of the story.
While he's best known for his roles in direct-to-video films, and as the hulking Russian that beat the hell out of Rocky, Dolph Lundgren's role in the second "Expendables" film is really the most unique. In this film he plays a man who's a consummate fighter and crack shot, who has two master's degrees, and who's been a bodyguard for a beautiful actress... because they wanted Dolph to use his life experience to make the performance really work.
One of the most respected actors of the modern day, Lee has had more roles as famous villains than many actors have roles at all. A part of Star Wars, the Lord of the Rings, and perhaps the best Dracula we've ever seen, these accomplishments pale in the face of what he's done off camera. A former member of Britain's special forces during WWII, the leader of one of the most metal bands in Europe, and a man knighted from both sides of his lineage is just barely scratching the surface of his lifetime accomplishments.

Hollywood takes all kinds, from the quirky and the unusual to the downright hardcore. You should never judge a book by its cover as these action heroes, authors, and lone adult film actor have shown. After all it isn't what you do for a living, but what you do as a person, that makes you worthy of acclaim.
